(REAL NAME) This review is from: Optimum Nutrition 100 Whey Gold Standard, Double Rich Chocolate, five Pound (Grocery) there’s only one other whey protein that I have taken and noticed an real increase in my performance in the gym, and that is Nitrotech.Which by the way is pretty darn costly. The price is right with optimum and the taste is spot on! My lifts really improved while taking this stuff, with no other supplements except many extra glutamine, 500 grams L Glutamine Bulk Powder.

Not all whey protein is produced equal, this is one of the best. One thing to think about is the glutamine per serving isn’t up to par with the protein serving. Need at least five grams, and more certainly does not hurt. I really am surprised with the improvement with my lifting, typically need creatine to get push this much weight.

There are only two other protein supplement’s better than Golds Standard Whey.

1) Golds Standard Whey Natural
2) Amway Instant Natural Protein

This doesn’t means that this is the best, a protein supplement may be. This simply propose that its better than anything else in the market.

The Question is Why?

1. The Quality of protein. Since its made by Glanbia (who owns Optimum nutrition), this product is coming straight from the maker. This is a BIG factor, 90 of the protein supplement businesses source their raw materials from 3rd parties, frequently importing them from 3rd world countries.

100 grams of Whey protein separate from one source isn’t equal to the 100 gram Whey protein separate from another. Inferior resources typically have high level of Heavy metals and cattle Hormones. This was elucidation from recent tests and published widely in the buyer reports. ON aced this report with minimum levels of such harmful residues. Reason is simple, they make their own whey in a plant which has to abide all rules under US law.

Just for the point of reference. I’m from India, so know 1st hand how many badly regulated cheese plants export their whey to Europe and US. So be sure your Whey protein is coming from Whey extracted in the US!!

The Additives

2. Ideally, I’ll favor the protein powder with no fake sweetener. But lets face it, such a product will be hard to sell. But, Golds whey keep fake sweeter to minimum. If you check Bodybuilding.Com forums, lots of buyer complain that its not sweet enough. I ask all such people to realise that’s really good for them, if you feel this product isn’t sufficiently sweet for you. Its better you use lesser total of hydrant (Milk, water, juice etc), or add a tiny bit of Honey.


The Profile The Myth about separate vs a Blend

3. This may be hard for many people to digest. But, the truth is 96 people who use Whey supplements, will dont have extra benefits of taking an separate vs a Blend. Note, when I use the word blend, I mean a product lile Golds whey which is balanced with Whey separate and Whey Concentrate. (not any junk product form the market). If you take the blend, you may get one gram of extra fat or two grams of extra carbs which is totally nothing. You may be able to burn this by adding 1.5 minute to your jog routine or walking for 2 3 minutes. You’ll get the same result and effect as the separate, so its not worth spending extra refined separate. The separate rumor is just a Hype produced by the supplement business. I’ll repeat this again, if your blend is as good as Golds whey i.E you’re to get 24 grams per 30 gram scoop, you do not need an separate.

Who all comprise the 4 population who can gain from an separate. 1st people who are very lactose Intolerant. I used the word very since all good merchandise add enzymes to digest the little total of lactose residue in the supplement. Lactose isn’t a a bad thing, its simply the milk sugar. If you’re greatly allergic to Lactose, separate will assist (they have negligible levels of lactose)

Second tier of people who can gain from Isolates are professional athletes who are pepping up for an forthcoming competition. This competitive set is consuming 5 8+ scoops of Whey protein daily so will gain from reduction in extra fat or carbs.

4. Why go for Whey protein blend when you have specific protein powders with Whey,egg and Casein.

Its simple science, Whey is just better with the best Biological value . That means that your body will better take in and use the protein source from Whey more than any other source, so no wastage. Egg is a great resource, which is just behind Whey. But in real world it lags behind Whey considerably, the delayed absorption rate can not reimburse much. Scientifically it was proven that Whey is just better, since it does not tax your digestive processes as much as an egg protein.

Question of Casein:
Its true that Casein has an edge when it comes to delayed absorption. Its anti catabolic properties and slow absorption makes it an ideal night time protein. This said, its best when you take Casein in concentrated from, i.E. If you need Casein, take only Caesin, don’t mix it with Whey. Why do I say this, Its a big subject depending on metabolism response(will add a different thread later). One last thing 24 grams of Whey protein isn’t equal to 24 grams of Casein as the Biological value of Casein is lower than Whey.However Caesin does have own benifit of delayed answer, provided you really need it.

Biological Value: Biological value (BV) is a measure of the amount of absorbed protein from a food which becomes incorporated into the proteins of the organism’s body.

Whole egg: 100
Cow milk: 91
Beef: 80
Casein: 77
Soy: 74


Last Thoughts:
Always keep a note of how much protein you’re consuming from Supplements Vs straight from the food. Ideally one should keep protein resources from supplements under 25, but if your life style is calling for and you’re unable to get hold of good meals rich in protein, you may want to generally keep your protein dependency under 50. In layman terms, for most of us who need strength, keep it not more than two scoops/day. For those who really pump many heavy Iron keep it upto than three scoops/day. (let me know if you want to know the science behind this)

In the end Supplements are only Supplements. The word Supplement has many of Drama attached to it, as if, if you do not take a protein shake inside 30 minutes of your work out.. you’ll never make good get. Total Crap. This isn’t a make or break factor(its just beneficial). Baring not many exemptions. Supplements adds up only 20 of your strength equation.

In the real world, for over 90 of us. The strength equation is something like this.

A Intensity and Regularity of Workout: 30 35
B Lifestyle and Nutritional Choices: 40 50
C Supplements : zero 20

So the most vital thing is to concentrate on AB. Once you maximized A and B, think about C

The Good:
Minimal calories(120 calories per scoop)
Very low carbs and sugars
High quality protein.
High total of protein person serving(24 grams) Compare to others that only give you 20 22 grams per serving.
Best tasting protein powder I have used. Tastes just like chocolate milk when using skim milk. Not grainy, chunky, and no bad aftertaste.
Mixes easily and well.
Great price for the quantity you get.

The Bad
NOTHING!

This protein is suggested for people who do average workouts. For acute bodybuilding or mass gains, go with a different powder because this is low in calories.

I have had type two diabetes for about three years and am on Metformin. My blood sugar was high in the mornings close to 200 210 it could go down as the day went on particularly if I restricted my carbs, but it was generally a roller coaster ride to keep it steady. My cholesterol readings were also high. I have been taking this for two weeks and my morning readings are going down steadily and I’m able to control my cravings and food intake. I have also noticed that the weight is starting to go down with not any extra effort. I greatly recommend it for cravings, appetite and blood sugar issues I’ll let you know how the cholesterol works out..blood work being done next week.

They do decrease your appetite and consequently you do not eat as much at meals. But it’s up to the individual on what he or she does eat to control the calorie intake.
